Andy Montgomery finished 4th at the FLW Series Tournament at Lake Champlain this weekend.  It’s his second top 10 finish in a row with Fetha Styx’s Homewater series rods.  Andy from Blacksburg, South Carolina finished strong with a total of 20 fish and a weight of 70 lbs 1 oz.  Big congrats to Andy!

After another successful trip to Westport salmon fishing, the 1066 (Northwest Premier Guide Series) continues to amaze everyone on our boat. The latest example is the 34 lbs., 6 ounces dressed king caught last week. This salmon hit the pole hard releasing it from the down rigger. I grabbed the pole, set the hook, and the fight was on. When we finally got the fish in the boat, my two friends and I could not believe what we saw. This big king was hooked under the lower jaw through the skin — only a half inch was holding the fish on. If it were not for the action of the 1066, I am sure he would have gotten off. This is my second letter sent to Fetha Styx so I want to make it clear, I am not paid or compensated in any way by Fetha Stxy. Simply put, this rod is at the top of the food chain period. Best rod I have ever owned.

We already know that fishing teaches us lessons about our selves and the world around us that transcend the mere accomplishment of landing fish. Fishing can provide more than just a positive ‘work/life balance’ — it can teach us the virtues necessary to find happiness both on and off the water. The blog post “Finding Passion on the Fly” (from Think Brilliant Media Studios) takes a moment to analyze the parallels between fly-fishing lessons and a satisfying professional life.

The key is passion.

Nothing’s worth our time unless we’re enjoying ourselves, right? Perhaps that’s a tad extreme, but passion, patience and an open mind are a few of the fundamental characteristics that lead to triumph in any activity. The lessons put forth in the article are logical, yet incredibly poignant. It’s worth taking a step back to appreciate the values instilled through fishing — and the successes they’re capable of leading to.

Team Fetha Styx at the 2010 Washington State Walleye Championship On Kettle Falls

The 5th and final tournament of the 2010 Washington State Walleye Circuit season was held on Lake Roosevelt on July 24th & 25th. The Washington State Walleye Championship presented by The Spokane Walleye Club is always an exciting event and with a guaranteed prize of $10,000 for first place and a close race for Angler of the Year, this year’s tournament did not disappoint.

Fishing on Lake Roosevelt in July is always exciting but add temps in the mid 90’s, extremely high water levels, excellent fishing, and 71 of the best walleye teams in the state, and you have the makings of one exciting tournament.

Team Fetha Styx had an excellent week of pre-fishing in preparation for this year’s event. During pre-fishing Jeff and Rod caught quality fish up to 24” and put together a run of 6 to 8 different fishing holes that they felt confident in. Their hard work paid off as they found themselves in 7th place after day one with a total of 6 fish for 13.14 lbs. Jeff and Rod were very excited for day two as they not only had a shot at the $10,000 top prize but they also put themselves in a good spot in the Angler of the Year race. Team Fetha Styx had another good day of fishing on day 2, but just needed one more quality bite to equal their weight from the previous day. At the end of the second day, they weighed in six fish for 10.86 lbs. and a two-day total of 24.00 lbs.

Team Fetha Styx finished the championship in 6th place. Rod Hewitt placed 3rd in the Angler of the Year standings, which qualifies Team Fetha Styx for the Cabela’s National Team Walleye Championship in 2011.

When we get feedback this awesome, we just have to share it with the world. Seriously, we’re always very glad to hear when people are pleased with their Fetha Styx rods — we’re proud of what we do and so happy to share our work with other anglers.

29-pounder cleaned!

My son and I just returned from three days fishing at Westport. I just wanted to let you know how great your FSNWP 1066 rod is (Northwest Premier Guide Series, part of the CCA/Fetha Styx line). We caught 12 salmon which were 20 plus pounds each, the largest being 29 pounds 11 ounces (see the picture) dressed. My son was fishing with a Lamiglas Kenai Special 8 foot-6 rod. Having caught over 25 kings this year alone, I was letting him land the fish on my 1066. While he was fighting a large king, we got another one on his pole. I grabbed his pole out of the down rigger and started to fight the fish. I thought his line had to be wrapped and caught on something, because it was so hard to retrieve the line. Then Rusty (my son) said that’s just the way the rod is. Because I had gotten used to how good my new Fetha Styx is, I can’t even tell you what a difference there is between the two rods. Every time I have gone fishing this year, I have out fished everyone on the boat because salmon have a hard time shaking the hook, with the flexibility of this rod. Your 1066 is without a doubt the best fishing rod I have ever used. I would highly recommend this rod to anyone angler who is fishing for salmon. The only battle I see is getting my rod back from my son! But we will be purchasing more of these excellent rods from you. I am telling everyone we know how great this rod is!

I also wanted to thank you for the excellent customer service we have received from your company. You all go way above and beyond and it feels like we are talking with old friends instead of a business.

Here’s a brief fishing report and photos from Kim‘s trip to Alaska. She says the 934 downrigger from our CCA Series has been awesome up there!

We had another beautiful day today, saw whales bubble feeding and watched them for about an hour. I’ve included a picture of them coming up (there were about 10 humpback whales together). We caught a 30-pound king and one pink that we kept just because we were so low on salmon. Apparently no one is catching salmon – they’re just not in right now because the weather has been so nice. Everyone keeps saying that a good rain will bring them in, but it hasn’t rained in about three weeks (probably a record).

Fished Possession Bar on July 30 and picked up two nice Chinook salmon, one 17 lbs. the other 10 lbs. Used our new Downrigger Rods FS-DRP 965-2 9ft 6in 12-25 lbs. and FS-DRP 934-2 8-20 lbs. The rods are from the CCA Series and work great. Exciting to see the amount of fish coming in from the ocean on their way home to the different hatcheries around the Sound. We also caught a wild 25 lbs. Chinook that we released and sent back on its way to make more. Talking with the fish check people at the boat ramp, they said this is the best fishing they have ever recorded in the Sound to date. If you get a chance even for a couple of hours it is worth it to go out and wet your lines. Doug’s Boats in Woodinville has a full selection of the new Downrigger rods for sale and we just dropped off our new herring rods for the Buoy 10 fishery coming up in August!
